Hours for position:

Friday 12:00pm - 8:30pm

Saturday - Monday 8:00am - 4:30pm

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Implement group programming that promotes interaction between residents. May be requested to assist in planning such activities.

a. Notifies residents and staff of activity schedules.

b. Monitors residents and visitors at events to help maintain orderly conduct.

2. Visits with residents on a one-to-one basis as directed by the Activities Director in order to provide:

a. A friendly visitor.

b. Sensory stimulation.

c. Reality orientation.

d. Individual instruction on specific leisure pursuits.

e. A means of meeting individual needs as outlined in each resident%u2019s Activity Plan.

3. Reports to Activities Director on resident%u2019s responses and/or progress to specific approaches utilized. May be requested to maintain a written record of same.

4. Recognizes abnormal signs and symptoms that signify a physical change in condition of resident which might require nursing intervention.

5. Selects residents and communicates with nursing personnel for purpose of assistance in transporting residents to and from general activity areas.

6. Is aware of conditions that may interfere with the safety and well-being of residents involved in activity pursuits. Reports hazardous conditions to Activities Director and/or Charge Nurse.

7. Receives, stores, and issues activities equipment and supplies. Maintains an ongoing inventory of supplies and equipment and needed maintenance.

8. May be responsible for general housekeeping duties in Activity areas.

9. May keep attendance records at events; operate audiovisual equipment, o monitor activities of residents during recreational trips or tours.

10. May welcome visitors and answer incoming telephone calls as assigned.

11. Provide assistance and monitor residents during smoke breaks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1. Basic understanding of the needs of the ill and elderly and an empathetic approach to the residents and their needs. Previous experience working with elderly and activities including crafts, games, and other activities as required.

2. Ability to communicate effectively in English. The majority of OHPAC residents are English-speaking; therefore, English is required in order to allow a resident to communicate wants and needs.

3. Demonstrated experience in scheduling activities and following up on those scheduled activities.

4. Ability to follow verbal and written directions.

5. Prompt, reliable, and enthusiastic about working with the elderly and other populations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

1. High school graduate or possess a GED.

2. CPR certified
