POSITION:
The Caregiver provides direct personal care and supervision to the residents at the community. This position promotes resident well-being and satisfaction through support with activities of daily living. Communicates with other departments to ensure resident needs are met.
REPORTING:
This position reports to the Wellness Director
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists with activities of daily living
- Follows community protocol, licensing regulation and guidelines for both resident and employee safety
- Follows safety guidelines in the community, including proper lifting technique and universal precautions when providing care to the residents
- Follows the schedule of duties for the Caregiver, as well as the individual plan of care for each resident
- Functions as a team, assisting coworkers as the need arises
- Monitors resident activity, food intake, functional status, psychosocial status, taking action as required to promote resident well-being
- Reports status change immediately to the Wellness Director
- Acts immediately on any resident crisis, following protocol and basic first aid training
- Documents resident status change, including but not limited to, physical change, reaction to medication, psychosocial status change
- Asks for assistance and reports to the Wellness Director in the event all assigned duties cannot be completed
- Promotes open communication between health care professionals, families, residents and staff
- Adheres to guidelines in the employee handbook including dress code, conduct, scheduling, etc
- Follows all HIPAA regulations
- Maintains regular attendance
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Language Skills:
%u2022 Must be able to read and interpret documents, such as letters, email communication, safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals

Mathematical Skills:
%u2022 Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
%u2022 Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables
Communication Skills:
%u2022 Must be able to speak effectively with community leadership, families, residents and outside resources
PHYSICAL CAPACITIES:
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
- Must meet the general health requirements
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
- Must be able to move intermittently during working hours
- Must be able to stand for and walk for extended periods of time
- Able to continuously walk, bend, climb, stoop, and stand an average of 5 hours per day
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Community environment has minimum hazards, including varying temperatures, varying workstations and varying interactions with residents, families and community staff. The noise level is usually moderate. May include possible, but not probable, exposure to blood-borne pathogens. This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an environment that delivers care and services primarily to an aging population. Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions and death and dying.
