Position Title Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Department Nursing

Reports to: Charge Nurse or RN Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

General Purpose

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is to provide residents routine daily nursing care and services in accordance with the resident%u2019s care plan, and as directed by facility supervisors.

Essential Duties

%u2022 Assist residents in achieving the highest practicable level of self-care, independence and well-being.

%u2022 Encourage residents to be active and out of bed unless contraindicate.

%u2022 Assist residents with transfers, ambulation and range of motion.

%u2022 Provide clean clothing and linens that are in good repair to residents.

%u2022 Respond to resident%u2019s call lights promptly.

%u2022 Pass nourishments and snacks.

%u2022 Pass water and encourage fluids unless contraindicated.

%u2022 Have necessary patient equipment present, clean and in good repair.

%u2022 Change positions of residents to prevent skin care issues

%u2022 Assist residents in being free of offensive odors.

%u2022 Obtain vitals and report to Charge Nurse.

%u2022 Monitor and document I&O when required.

%u2022 Complete charting of care provided.

%u2022 Assist with preparation for new admissions, room changes, transfers and discharges.

%u2022 Greet new residents and orient them to their new room, and ensure they are comfortable.

%u2022 Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, positive emphasis and calmness.

%u2022 Collect specimens (i.e. urine, stools, sputum etc.) as instructed.

%u2022 Report significant findings or changes in condition and potential concerns to the Charge Nurse, RN Supervisor and/or Director of Nursing.

%u2022 Assist residents in preparing for medical tests, activities, social programs, appointments and daily meals.

%u2022 Assist with elimination including emptying catheter bags as well as providing and sanitizing bedpans, urinals and bedside commodes.

%u2022 Assist residents with good personal hygiene, including care of skin, bathing, shampooing and grooming of hair, oral hygiene, shaving or beard trimming as well as cleaning and cutting of nails.

%u2022 Provide pressure relieving devises and skin-protective measures.

%u2022 Assist with the care of the dying resident; provide post-mortem care as instructed.

Supervisory Requirements

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualification

Education and/or Experience High school diploma or equivalent.

Current certificate as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Current CPR certification.

Preferable one-year experience in a long term care facility.

Language Skills Ability to read technical procedures. Ability to read and comprehend policy and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.

Mathematical Skills Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Current CPR certification.

Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred.

Must maintain all required continuing education/licensing.

Must remain in good standing with the Department of Public Health License and Certification Division at all times.

Physical Demands

The essential functions of this position require the following physical abilities:

Standing and /or walking very frequently. Sitting occasionally. Reaching with hands and arms frequently, pushing/pulling very frequently. Talking and /or hearing very frequently. Tasting and /or smelling very frequently. Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently. Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling occasionally. Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception in vision: ability to adjust focus.
