JOB SUMMARY: The Dietary Cook will primarily be responsible in the preparation of food for nutritious and attractive meals for resident%u2019s dining pleasure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Qualifications:
* Assist Lead/Director with ordering food and supplies needed to successfully meet Residents nutritional needs
* Prepare food daily as outlined on the weekly menu plan.
* Assist with menu planning; review and adjust menus with supervisor to accommodate foods in season, vendor sale prices, special events and holidays.
* Alter or adapt recipes in collaboration with supervisor to provide best possible food product.
* Identify food and supplies needed for the next week%u2019s menus and report to the supervisor.
* Maintain quality of food products by keeping refrigerators and storage facilities neat and clean.
* Prepare meats for storage and portion control upon delivery; ensure proper storage of all delivered foods and ingredients.
* Maintain a clean, orderly and safe kitchen environment.
* Promote proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection control.
* Report concerns or observations about residents to supervisor.
* Coordinate and participate in serving food.
* Monitor portion control to meet residents%u2019 requests and minimize waste.
* Ability to delegate to Dietary Aids as needed.
* Provide attractive presentation of food with garnish on the plate before serving.
* Monitor and record temperatures and chemical levels on kitchen equipment as instructed.
* Notify Lead/Director of malfunction of equipment or appliances.
* Encourage and invite residents to participate in the food service program and activities.
* Assist in delivery storage and proper rotation.
* Carry out other duties as assigned by Director.
* Adhere to and carry out all policies and procedures.
* Report on the job injuries to the Director or MOD on the day the injury occurs.
* Practice safety in working with and around kitchen equipment.
* Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with coworkers, residents, families and visitors.
* Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, community operations and personnel.
* Promote Oakwood Village in a positive manner.
* Promote optimistic teamwork in providing services to residents.
QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:
* OSHA-MSDS sheets and procedures.
* Fire and safety procedures.
* State food-handling and kitchen regulations
* Operation of kitchen appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, miser, etc..) and office equipment (photocopier, telephone).
* Employees will not work under the influence of mood altering or illegal drugs or alcohol.
* Adherence to the dress code and good personal hygiene.
* Attend all mandatory meetings
* Maintain first aid certificate
* Working Conditions:
* Heated/Air-conditioned, well-lit kitchen
* Exposure to hot ovens and stoves.
* Weekend work on a rotation basis.
* Operation of kitchen appliances and equipment.
Qualifications:
* Willingness to learn and work
* Enjoyment in working with older adults.
* Some experience in food preparation preferred.
* Must be 18 years of age.
* Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend the English language.
* Maintain proper body mechanics when lifting, pushing or pulling.
