Job Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Interpersonal, Teamwork & Misc.
- Communicates unresolved work-related issues productively & effectively solves problems

- Friendly and courteous to residents, co-workers etc, and takes ownership in solving problems (taking initiative where appropriate)

Administrative Functions
- Work with the facility%u2019s Dietary Aides and Dietitian/Director of Food Services as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
- Others as deemed necessary and appropriate, or as may be directed.
- Agree not to disclose assigned user ID code and password for accessing resident/facility information and promptly report any suspected or known unauthorized access, use, or disclosure of such information.
Personnel Functions
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-department personnel as well as with other departments within the facility to assure that food service can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
- Report known or suspected incidents of fraud to the Administrator.
- Log off computer workstations per established facility policy.
Cleaning Services
- Assist in daily or scheduled cleaning duties, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Clean worktables, meat blocks, refrigerators/freezers, etc.
- Sweep and mop floors as directed.
- Carry soiled utensils, etc., to wash area.
- Return clean utensils to proper storage areas.
- Wash and clean utensils as directed.
- Carry out garbage and keep work areas clean, dry and free of hazardous equipment, supplies, etc.
- Perform dishwashing/cleaning procedures. Assure that utensils, etc., are readily available for next meal.
- Remove food trays from carts, dining rooms, etc., and take to dishwashing area.
Safety and Sanitation
- Always follow safety regulations and precautions.
- Follow established Infection Control Precautions policies and procedures when performing daily tasks.
- Ensure that the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained.
- Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to your supervisor immediately.
- Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor on the shift in which they occur.
- Always assist in maintaining food storage areas in a clean and properly arranged manner.
- Dispose of food and waste in accordance with established policies.
- Wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
- Report missing/illegible labels or MSDSs to your supervisor.
Budget and Planning Functions
- Report suspected or known incidence of fraud relative to false billings, cost reports, kickbacks, etc.
Resident Rights
- Maintain confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information including protected health information. Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized access, use, or disclosure of such information.
- Report complaints to the Director of Food Services.
Physical Capabilities
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which includes an annual TB screening and physical examination.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and walk.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Environment Conditions
- Primarily inside work, normal temperatures, some noise, occasional fumes/odors, chemical exposure, and potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
- This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an intimate, 24-hour skilled care environment that delivers care and services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents in an aging population.
- Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in a nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsmen and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff.
