POSITION:

The Housekeeper is responsible to keep the physical environment of the community clean on a daily basis in accordance with established schedules and procedures.

REPORTING:

This position reports to the Maintenance Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Cleans resident rooms and bathrooms as assigned in accordance with community procedures

- Keeps resident rooms and contents clean and orderly in accordance with the wishes of the resident

- Cleans other areas of the facility daily as assigned, including one or more of the following:

o Offices

o Kitchen

o Living areas

o Halls and lobby

o Utility rooms

o Laundry area

- Treats all residents with dignity and respect when performing duties in resident care areas

- Is courteous, considerate and helpful when communicating with all community personnel, residents and public

- Practices infection control policies and procedures of the department and facility

- Secures cleaning chemicals in locked housekeeping cart or closet unless in immediate possession and use

- Promptly reports any needed repairs to Maintenance Director

- Perform other housekeeping related tasks as assigned

- Assists with weekly and monthly major housekeeping tasks, as requested

- Reacts appropriately to emergencies and disaster situations

- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

- Attends in-service or trainings, as assigned

- Report injury to self or others to the Executive Director immediately

- Follows all HIPAA regulations

- Must be capable of maintaining a regular attendance

- Performs other related duties as required and assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

- Demonstrate knowledge of, and respect for, the rights, dignity and individuality of each resident in all interactions

- Appreciates the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information

- Demonstrate honesty and integrity at all times in the care and use of resident and facility property 2

- Must be neat and clean and well-groomed in appearance

- Ability to read, speak and understand English, follow directions and complete the assigned responsibilities

- Knowledge of basic principles of cleaning and disinfecting

- Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of the community

- Able to locate nearest exit, to understand and respond to written or oral instruction in case of emergency

- Demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and complete duties/projects within allotted time

- Able to respond to change and critiquing productively and to handle additional tasks/projects as assigned

- Ability to follow appropriate safety guidelines

- Must meet all local health regulations and pass pre-employment physical exam, which includes drug screening, criminal background investigation and reference inquiry

- Able to carry out the essential functions of this job (with or without reasonable accommodation) without posing specific, current risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self and others

Language Skills:

- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information, and to be easily understood through verbal communication in the English language.

Mathematical Skills:

- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

- Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, and volume.

Communication Skills:

- Must have exceptional communication and customer service skills, and be empathetic.

- Ability to effectively communicate with residents, families and staff.

PHYSICAL CAPACITIES: (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

- Must be able to move frequently throughout the workday.

- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of the community.

- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

- Continuous bending, squatting, twisting and reaching.

- Must be able to bend, squat, pull, stoop and push up to 50 pounds.

- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Primarily inside work, normal temperatures, some noise, occasional fumes/odors, chemical exposure and potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens. This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an environment that delivers care and services primarily to an aging population. Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions and death and dying.
