POSITION:

The Medication Tech coordinates resident care related to over the counter and prescription medications by working with all departments, the medical community, families and administrative staff to provide for resident needs with continuity and an adherence to the scope of practice and licensure for the community. This position provides complete supervision of the medication room, pass techniques, documentation and supervision and provision of care related to medication in the community.

REPORTING:

This position reports to the Wellness Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Keeps documentation in resident charts current, including community forms, licensing documentation, physician orders, incident reports, etc

- Communicates resident status changes to the WELLNESS DIRECTOR

- Ensures all medication documentation is current and correct, including medication administration forms, physician orders, change of dosages, written orders that confirm telephone orders, etc

- Ensures medication room is completely stocked with all required continuous, PRN, Over-the-Counter (OTC), and other medications as ordered by the physician

- Coordinates medication orders and deliveries with pharmacies

- Communicates with physicians and other healthcare providers as needed

- Monitors that psychotropic med use is congruent with physician orders and that resident behaviors actually warrant the use of medication

- Controls medication room access and key assignment

- Assists residents with self-administration of medications in accordance with state regulations

- Coordinates physician and other medical appointments for residents

- Reads all communications, Med Tech notes, Caregiver notes and instructions from the WELLNESS DIRECTOR or ED regarding the community

- Is courteous, considerate and helpful when communicating with all community personnel, residents and public

- Reacts appropriately to emergencies and disaster situations

- Attends in-service or trainings, as assigned

- Report injury to self or others to the Executive Director immediately

- Follows all HIPAA regulations

- Must be capable of maintaining a regular attendance

- Performs other related duties as required and assigned

Language Skills:

%u2022 Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

%u2022 Must be able to speak effectively with community leadership, families, residents and outside resources

PHYSICAL CAPACITIES:

- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met

- Must meet the general health requirements

- Must be able to lift a minimum of 30 pounds

- Must be able to move intermittently during working hours

- Must be able to stand for and walk for extended periods of time

- Able to continuously walk, bend, climb, stoop, and stand an average of 5 hours per day

- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Community environment has minimum hazards, including varying temperatures, varying workstations and varying interactions with residents, families and community staff. The noise level is usually moderate. May include possible, but not probable, exposure to blood-borne pathogens. This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an environment that delivers care and services primarily to an aging population. Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions and death and dying.
