POSITION SUMMARY

The Registered Dietitian/Dietary Services Manager (DM) is responsible to be the leader of the dietary department; clinically competent; deliver healthy, good-tasting, and visually appealing meals to patients following prescribed diets and patients%u2019 dietary preferences, where such preferences can be accommodated. The DM effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and other health team members while maintaining standards of professional management.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES / STANDARDS

Leadership and Department Management

The Dietary Manager (DM) is the leader and manager of the dietary department. You are responsible for leading and inspiring staff members, sharing your department and facility vision, coordinating work schedules and work flow and encouraging the competent and efficient performance of dietary staff members. Included in that leadership and management responsibility are the main following main tasks:

-Demonstrate appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the dietary operations systems that lead to proper patient care.

-Assess the needs of the dietary department systems, staff and patients within the scope of practice.

-Plan/Implement or inter-input; set priorities for action in a logical sequence according to department needs and formulate a plan of operation.

-Evaluate the effectiveness of the systems implemented, staff competency, and patient outcomes.

-Maintain accurate documentation of patient diets and preferences in tray-card system. Ensure prescribed diets and facility census are updated in tray-card system.

-Communicate with the dietitian and nursing staff regarding patient diets, dietary assessments, and recommendations on a daily basis, and as needed as information become available.

-Collaborate with other departments and health team members to ensure the patient's well-being as evidenced by staff/client feedback.

-Teach staff members correct practices and patient/significant-other appropriate interaction in a timely manner and share written information.

-Perform dietary duties as assigned and as needs present including cooking, dish-washing, cleaning and meal services.

-Demonstrate necessary skills and knowledge to provide leadership to staff and implement effective systems according to policy and procedure.

-Demonstrate ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise, and professional manner.

-Give a thorough, concise report at during meetings with Administrator, other department managers, and Quality Assurance meetings.

-Communicate pertinent information to the appropriate person in a timely manner.

-Demonstrate accurate and timely documentation according to form guidelines.

-Maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment in the dietary area.

-Ensure that supplies and equipment necessary for kitchen operations are stored in an organized and efficient manner.

-Demonstrate and teach correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product information.

-Follow appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning/disposing of equipment and supplies.

-Participate in economical utilization of supplies and ensure that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.

-Ensure self and staff members do not incur excessive overtime.

-Remain conscientious in regard to personal hygiene and comply with specific division/unit regulations.

-Comply with specific System/division/unit policy and procedure concerning safety.

-Assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respect their confidentiality and privacy and communicate with them in a courteous and respectful manner.

-Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquires to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated.

-Identify yourself in a pleasant and positive manner.

-Take responsibility for helping a caller.

-Orient and train new Team Members.

-Recruit other staff members to correctly and positively train new Team Members

-Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.

-Investigate and follow through on unusual orders or requests for service or information.

-Follow proper reporting procedures for actual or potential accidents and/or incidents so follow-up and/or prevention can occur.

-Record/report the need for service maintenance or repair of equipment and remove any faulty equipment from service.

-Contribute to the achievement of Performance Improvement and participate in

-Attend required in-service programs.

ADHERENCE TO SYSTEM AND DEPARTMENTAL POLICIES

-Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all policies and procedures and ability to reference them from appropriate books and manuals.

-Comply with the System's infection control policies and procedures including Body Substance Isolation (BSI) and the Exposure Control Plan which reflects OSHA Blood-borne Pathogens Standard to ensure a safe working environment for self and others.

-Ensure that the System is operated in an efficient and cost effective manner by adhering to System and departmental attendance policies as documented on the Employee Attendance Record.

-Demonstrate adherence and support of System-Wide Service Standards as evidence by observation and client feedback.

-Demonstrate adherence to System/Department Complaint Management Standard.

-Demonstrate adherence to System/Department Dress Code Standard.
