Position: Registered Nurse

Department: Nursing

Reports To: Director of Nursing

PURPOSE:

The RN will assess resident problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records and administer nursing care to residents. In addition, the RN supervises throughout their shift the care, treatment, and services provided to the resident by nursing staff, as well as other healthcare staff assigned to that unit. The RN ensures that all documentation, charting and reporting has been done correctly and in a timely manner, demonstrates strong ethical and safety practices, and works closely with other nursing staff on resident update and or changes in status.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May supervise less experienced healthcare personnel on their given shift.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

%u2022 Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.

%u2022 Monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in resident%u2019s conditions.

%u2022 Record resident%u2019s medical information and vital signs. Regulate and adjust medication and treatments in consultation with the physician, monitoring closely for adverse side effects.

%u2022 Participate in formal and informal resident activities aimed at promoting positive health practices and understanding of the individual%u2019s medical issues.

%u2022 Participate in Care Center surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested.

%u2022 Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate resident care plans.

%u2022 Monitor all aspects of resident care, including diet and physical activity.

%u2022 Direct and supervise less skilled nursing or health care personnel.

%u2022 Direct the day-to-day functions of CNAs in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern long term care.

%u2022 Administer local, inhalation, intravenous, and other medications.

%u2022 Direct and coordinate infection control programs, advising and consulting with specified personnel about necessary precautions.

%u2022 Perform administrative and managerial functions, such as taking responsibility for a unit's staff, budget, and planning.

%u2022 Provide or arrange for training or instruction of auxiliary personnel.

%u2022 Other duties as may be assigned.

EDUCATION:

%u2022 BSN preferred.

%u2022 Licensed as an RN through the State Board of Nursing.

%u2022 An equivalent combination of experience, education, and other qualifications may be considered.

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

%u2022 Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

%u2022 Must have an excellent observation, good nursing judgment, and good oral and written communication skills.

%u2022 Professional in attitude, demeanor, and dress.

%u2022 Good organizational skills and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

%u2022 Able to lift a minimum of 25 to 75 pounds.

%u2022 Ability to be flexible in working hours.
