Essential Functions

Direct the day-to-day functions of the Certified Nursing Assistants in accordance with the current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long term care facility.

Ensure that all nursing personnel assigned to you complies with the written policies and procedures established by this facility.

Periodically review the department policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, and make recommendations for revision.

Meet with your assigned nursing staff, as well as support personnel, in planning the shifts services, programs, and activities.

Participates in facility surveys(state inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested.

Admit, transfer, and discharged residents as required.

Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting etc., as necessary.

Document nurses notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the residents as well as the residents response to care.

Perform routine charting duties as required and in accordance with the established charting and documentation policies and procedures.

Prepare and administer medications and treatments as ordered by the physicians.

Ensure that an adequate supply of medications, supplies, and equipment is on hand to meet the needs of each residents.

Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary, and in accordance with established policies.

Review and evaluate your departments work force and make recommendations to the Director of Nursing Services.

Develop work assignments and/ or assist in completing and performing such assignments.

Make daily rounds of your unit to ensure that nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Report areas of concern to the Director of Nursing Services.

Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to ensure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.

Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents.

Implement and maintain established nursing objectives and standards.

Inspect the nursing services care areas daily to ensure that they are maintained in a clean and safe manner.

Administer professional services such as; catheterizations, tube feedings, suction, wound care, ostomy care, drainage care, care for deceased residents, and IV administration within the scope of practice.

Obtain specimens for lab tests as ordered.

Participate in developing, planning, conducting, and scheduling in-service training classes that provide instructions to staff as needed.

Attend and participate in the facility in-service program as scheduled.

Review care plans routinely for appropriate goals, problems, approaches, and revisions based on nursing needs.

Maintain confidentiality of all residents care information including protected health information.

Report known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure of such information.

Monitor care to ensure that all residents are treated fairly, with kindness, dignity, and respect.

Ensure that all nursing service personnel are knowledgeable of the residents responsibilities and rights.
