Description

POSITION:

The Server helps residents by providing information to help food and beverage selections, presenting ordered choices timing and maintaining dining ambiance.

REPORTING:

This position reports to the Cook

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Prepares room for dining by clothing tables and setting decorations, condiments, flowers, napkins, service plates, and utensils

- Protects establishment and residents by adhering to sanitation, safety, and alcoholic beverage control policies

- Helps residents select food and beverages by presenting menu, suggesting choices, explaining the specials of the day, answering food preparation questions and correctly taking the order

- Transmits orders to kitchen by recording residents%u2019 choices, identifying special dietary needs and special requests

- Keeps kitchen staff informed by noting timing of meal progression

- Serves orders by picking up and delivering residents%u2019 choices from the kitchen

- Responds to additional resident requirements by inquiring of needs and observing dining process

- Maintains table setting by removing courses as completed, replenishing utensils, refilling water glasses and being alert to resident spills or other special needs

- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

- Attends in-service or trainings, as assigned

- Report injury to self or others to the Executive Director immediately

- Follows all HIPAA regulations

- Must be capable of maintaining a regular attendance

- Performs other related duties as required and assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

- Willing to work after business hours, on weekend and holidays as needed to meet the residents%u2019 needs

- Demonstrates knowledge of, and respect for, the rights, dignity and individuality of each resident in all interactions

- Appreciates the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and community information

- Demonstrates honesty and integrity at all times

- Must be neat and clean in appearance

- Appreciation of the importance of food preparation in enhancing quality of life for residents

- Carries out all duties in accordance with the community mission and philosophy

- Able to understand and to follow written and verbal directions

- Able to communicate with dining services staff members through verbal and/or written means

- Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of the community

- Able to locate nearest exit, to understand and respond to written or oral instruction in case of emergency

- Demonstrate ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and complete duties/projects within allotted time

- Able to respond to change and critiquing productively and to handle additional tasks/projects as assigned

- Ability to follow appropriate safety guidelines

- Must meet all local health regulations and pass pre-employment physical exam, which includes drug screening, criminal background investigation and reference inquiry

- Able to carry out the essential functions of this job (with or without reasonable accommodation) without posing specific, current risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self and others

Language Skills:

- Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical information, and to be easily understood through verbal communication in the English language.

Mathematical Skills:

- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

- Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, and volume.

Communication Skills:

- Must have exceptional communication and customer service skills, and be empathetic.

- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, responsible parties, staff and outside resources and agencies.

PHYSICAL CAPACITIES: (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met

- Must meet the general health requirements

- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds

- Must be able to move intermittently during working hours

- Must be able to stand for and walk for extended periods of time

- Must be able to bend, squat, push, stoop and pull as needed especially in fulfilling resident care activities

- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Community environment has minimum hazards, including varying temperatures, varying workstations and varying interactions with residents, families and community staff. The noise level is usually moderate. May include possible, but not probable, exposure to blood-borne pathogens. This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with an environment that delivers care and services primarily to an aging population. Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions and death and dying.
